Teachers Strike in Kenya

This is to put things straight on the possibility of an Industrial Action in January. This applies more to those who are not well versed with the intrigues in the education sector.

There were news reports that a teachers strike in Kenya in January 2016 was looming.

As at now, a strike is highly unlikely. A strike has not even been issued.

The unions (KNUT and KUPPET) are currently confused. The unions are also battling for their own dues. The unions are preoccupied with plans/traps that were strategically set by the Government.

As the Government triggers activity around the union dues on one hand,  it is also altering the pay slips of the teachers on the other hand.

KNUT had given the Government/ TSC up to 25 December 2015 for a CBA to be signed. The CBA has not been signed and KNUT has not made good its threats.

A strike is not likely to happen in January 2016. The teachers unions are confused as at now.

The teachers unions have lost much of their focus. The teachers' unions of 2016 are toothless tigers. They can no longer protect their members from occational variations of taxes and allowances.
